Butterfly Knife Flipping for Beginners

Butterfly Knife Flipping

A lot of you read this blog might just be getting into butterfly knife flipping, or maybe you’re thinking about getting into flipping, or perhaps you’re even thinking about thinking about getting into flipping. Regardless of whether you have actually started flipping or not, it can be hard to stay motivated to learn any new skill. Lucky for you, I’m here to help you out!

Here are some tips get you motivated to keep flipping or to get your foot in the door if you have not started butterfly knife flipping yet.

Tips to Get Started Butterfly Knife Flipping

Do your Research

There are actually a lot of different places you can go to find everything you need to know about balisong knives and how to get started flipping. Here are a few of them.

Blade Forums

Not everything you find on Blade Forums is going to pertain to balisong knives, but if you look in the right places, you just might find some threads about butterfly knives. To get started flipping, you’ll need a good butterfly knife. Here’s one thread I found: Best Butterfly Knives.

With more searches, you can find even more useful information about balisong knives and recommendations about specific models.

YouTube

YouTube is pretty much the greatest place ever for finding butterfly knife flipping tutorials, so basically YouTube should be your best friend. Whether you’re a novice, intermediate, or advanced flipper, you can most certainly find a tutorial for you on YouTube. There are even some decent tutorials you can find in written form by simply performing a Google search for butterfly knife tricks.

Balisong.net

Another amazing resource for tricks and general information on balisong knives is www.balisong.net . Be sure to check it out.

Find a Buddy to Flip With

I’m a runner and I love running when I actually do it, but it’s crazy hard to find the motivation to get up and run early in the morning. Eventually I found out that if I made plans to meet a friend to run in the morning, I was way more likely to actually get out of bed and go running.

I really think the same is true for butterfly flipping and any other hobby you have—if you find someone who shares your interest in butterfly flipping, they can help you get motivated to develop and refine your flipping skills. Finding a friend who has been flipping longer than you have can be a huge help because your friend can teach you new tricks and critique your technique.

There’s a lot to be said for online tutorials, but nothing beats learning a skill in person.

Be Smart

When flipping a sharp object like a butterfly knife around, it’s always best to be smart. If you’ve never flipped a butterfly before, you don’t need to start out with the most complicated trick you can find on YouTube. If you do that, you could end up nicking your fingers, which is never fun. If you start out with a trick that’s too hard, you could also end up not being able to do the trick, getting discouraged, and giving up butterfly flipping. That would be a tragedy.

Instead, it’s better if you can tackle something a little less intimidating, gain some confidence with your flipping, and gradually progress to more and more advanced tricks.

These are just a few simple tips to help you out on your voyage to becoming the best butterfly knife flipper in the universe. What things have you found that help you refine your flipping skills?
